Holly Gaboriault is an art director, author, designer and filmmaker working in Providence, Rhode Island. Her work blends history, storytelling and design inspired by world costumes and folktales, global textiles and contemporary fashion. A graduate of Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Illustration, Holly has independently designed for numerous clients, created public art installations and curated exhibitions. Her work has been exhibited throughout New England and New York, and published in books, prints and textiles. In 2012, she began producing and directing a documentary film series, the RI ART ARCHIVE PROJECT, exploring the Rhode Island art and culture community.
What drives my work are the improbable conversations and connections made between disparate themes, places and people. Blending history and storytelling enables me to construct new and unique narratives throughout my work in various forms through design, illustration, curation and filmmaking. Inspired from folklore, performance and contemporary design, my recent explorations include the influences of global textiles and fashion anthropology, and curating community dialogues.
Here are a few examples of the work.
